GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Communications Associate is responsible for external and internal communications. The position supports MCC’s messaging, development of collateral materials, media/press releases and social media content, as well as develop and manage the organization’s communications strategy and practices.
This work includes executing communications work across multiple areas, including media, social media, digital projects including website content, branding and marketing. The ideal candidate will have significant experience writing and creating digital content (writing and graphic design) for social media and website use, as well as managing websites, including design and updates. The ideal candidate will also have some experience working with advocacy campaigns, interacting with members of the media, and working with community members to facilitate storytelling and other communications activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing a myriad of communication materials, including long reports, short fact sheets, social media graphics, and videos.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development and implementation of a multi-faceted communications plan, which includes message development, web presence, external communications (social media, website, e-newsletter), and advocacy campaigns to educate, motivate, and influence target audiences
  • Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with journalists and publications that focus on child well-being issues.
  • Develop and follow an annual editorial and communications calendar of events and social media schedule to ensure that events, news, and programmatic updates are optimally posted, including best time of day for the platform as indicated by research
  • Produce well branded presentations for various public presentation and speaking opportunities 
  • Create and implement a social media marketing strategy that includes all major social media platforms as appropriate
  • Grow number of social media followers and engagement via creative, entertaining, compelling and informative posts
  • Design and manage MCC Connected Communities-Thriving Families external materials in line with brand
  • Work with program staff to capture content and share their work to our network
  • Draft media communications, and coordinate media outreach tracking all garnered media coverage
  • Develop and update general brochures, key messages, fact sheets, & other collateral as needed
  • Coordinate photography for/of events, activities, etc. for use in publications, media, etc. and ensure appropriate releases are signed and filed; maintain graphic and photo files 
  • Attend and actively participate in required educational programs and internal team meetings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years of marketing, creative writing, website design, and other communications experience
  • Experience producing materials for digital communications, social media, graphic design, and websites
  • Experience as or working with journalists and members of the media is a plus
  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Suite, Canva Photoshop, Google Suite, WordPress and some experience with CRM database management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficient in graphic design and website design, updates, and management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong ability to match brand tone, a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with e-newsletters, Google analytics, social media analytics and scheduling platforms
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to communications and organizational strategy
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience developing messaging reflective of community values, priorities and lived expertise
  • Multi-media production skills, including familiarity with video and sound editing ideal; familiarity and experience with design tools including Adobe
  • Photoshop, Canva, Adobe InDesign, and familiarity with WordPress
